Closing of Pre deployment Training (PDT) of Shree BarakhBn,NepBatt 58 (UNIFIL), Force Headquarter Support Unit and Field Engineer platoon(UNDOF)

On 24th September 2017, Chief of the Army Staff (COAS, NA) General Rajendra Chhetri presided over the closing ceremony of the Pre deployment training (PDT) of Shree Barakh Bn which is going to be deployed in UNIFIL , Force HQ Support Unit and Field Engineer PL which are going to be deployed in UNDOF Mission in near future. Prior to the closing ceremony, commandant of BPOTC briefed the COAS about training and General administrative aspects of the center following the briefing respective Mission commanders briefed the COAS about the challenges the unit would face in the mission area & how they would overcome it. The COAS, after delivering the Rt.Hon. President’s message to the deploying troops, also addressed the troops during the closing ceremony. He then observed the flex briefing and the demonstration presented by the Shree Barakh Bn. Prior to the closing ceremony, the Commandant of BPOTC exchanged mementos with the three Units & addressed to them about the complexity of the Mission and expressed the expectation of Nepali Army and UN regarding their duties and responsibilities in their Respective Mission area.

Sixty years ago, a small group of international military observers were dispatched by the Security Council to supervise an uneasy cease fire between the new state of Israel and its Arab neighbors. His first peacekeeping mission was an experiment never envisaged by the founders of the United Nations.

COAS's Speech

"There is no question that as UN peacekeeping continues to evolve, so will the training needs of UN peacekeepers. Hence, peacekeeping training should have a systematic approach in order to develop training standards, policies, guidance and best practices for the trainers. Only the outcome of such training can help to meet the mission requirements."
